Finding connection at the YSS conference

The 2026 YSS Conference brought together 185 guests, speakers and partners Aug. 18–19 for two days of professional development and collaboration focused on strengthening out-of-school time (OST) providers and supporting youth development.

The free conference, held for members of the YSS network, began Aug. 18 at Lobby at East End before continuing Aug. 19 at the Akron-Summit County Public Library. The conference opened with networking and a youth panel moderated by Bryce Harris of Always Climbing. The panel gave attendees an opportunity to hear directly from young people about the people and experiences that helped shape their success. Panelists spoke about mentors who played important roles in their lives and underscored the impact that supportive adults can have on a young person’s development.

The second day featured a Day of Learning with 30 individual sessions covering topics on leadership, youth development, mental health, family engagement, funding and advocacy. The sessions gave participants opportunities to expand their knowledge and bring new ideas back to their organizations.

The conference also included a Partner Fair featuring 23 network partners. Partners showcased their services and resources which gave attendees an opportunity to make connections and learn about resources.

Attendee feedback following the conference reflected high levels of satisfaction and a strong interest in continued engagement.

YSS is grateful to the members of the YSS Network who participated in the conference as speakers, partners and/or guests. Their time and expertise helped make the conference a meaningful opportunity for learning and connection. We look forward to continuing this work together.
