YSS hosts successful conference

October 7, 2025

The Youth Success Summit kicked off the 2025 Conference – Empowering Our Own: Building Belonging and Community for OST Providers – at House Three Thirty with an inspiring lineup of out of school time leaders. Executive Director Rachel Tecca and Board Chairman David James welcomed attendees, setting the tone for two days focused on empowerment, collaboration, and opportunity.

Special remarks followed from Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro, Jerome Moss of Guys & Gals Community Partnership, Denico Buckley Knight from the City of Akron, and Rodney Matthews of Urban Vision — each highlighting the power of partnership in creating brighter futures for youth.

The keynote address was delivered by Kofi B, a 2x Emmy-nominated pianist, producer, actor, and media personality, who shared an uplifting message about creativity, resilience, and purpose.

The session concluded with closing remarks, networking opportunities, and a treat — ice cream at the House Three Thirty Sweet Shop, giving attendees a chance to connect and celebrate the start of the conference.

On the second day, network providers had the opportunity to choose from a variety of conference sessions tailored to their interests and organizational needs. Workshops ranged in topics such as effective communications for mission-driven success, cross-sector collaboration, and using data to elevate programs and empower people. Attendees explored essential themes like advocacy, leadership, trauma-informed care, youth mental health, and program quality.  Leaders also participated in GiANT Leadership sessions to strengthen teamwork and personal growth.

Whether diving into fund development, equity partnerships, or the latest OST research, network providers left Day 2 feeling inspired, informed, and connected.
